Updated: 31 October 2026

Looking for an internship in Vienna? Right now there are 167 open internships and working-student positions in Vienna on the company career pages Whittle checks every day (231 across Austria).

How much does an internship in Vienna pay?

In Austria, every job ad has to state the minimum salary. That makes Austria one of the few countries where you can actually measure internship pay. Across 177 current internship ads with a salary, the median is € 2 143 gross per month (converted to full time). In Vienna it is € 2 174.

By field:

Field	Median / month	Ads with salary
Kreativ & Marketing	€ 2 260	16
Tech & IT	€ 2 148	32
Business & Büro	€ 2 064	98
Technik & Ingenieurwesen	€ 1 100	19

A few things to know:

These are gross amounts, converted to full time (40 hours). A 20-hour internship pays roughly half.
Austria pays salaries 14 times a year. Monthly figures here are one of those 14 payments.
The salary in the ad is the minimum. Larger companies often pay above it.
Some mandatory internships (Pflichtpraktikum) are offered as unpaid training positions. Check what the ad says before you apply.

Which fields have the most internships?

Business and finance clearly lead: banks, the Big Four, insurers and corporates hire interns all year round. Tech internships pay well but are fewer in number. Marketing and creative internships are the hardest to find relative to demand.

Tips for international students

Check your work permit first. If you are from outside the EU, student work in Austria comes with conditions (for example limited weekly hours, and in some cases a permit via the AMS). Ask your university's international office or the OeAD before you sign anything.
Apply directly on the company site. Most internships in Vienna are posted on the companies' own career pages first.
Start early. Big employers recruit summer interns from autumn onwards.
